Compatibility Guide

Choose the right N-Possible coupler for each installation.

General Compatibility Guidance

  • URS series couplers fit into existing coupler boxes
     

  • SBX series couplers are for complete box replacement scenarios
     

  • You can use URS couplers to convert truck mount couplers in MTL trucks, retaining the truck mounting.
     

  • Shank sizes vary by 1 mm of shank length between each size.

    • ​Short shank couplers (101 series) generally replace “1015” type sizes.

    • Long shank couplers (301 series) generally replace “1016” type sizes.

    • Medium shank (201 series) is in between.
       

  • Replace MTL style separate boxes on models with SBX couplers.
     

  • Use URS couplers in stock boxes for locomotives.
